You’ll need an order form where you can collect the retailer’s details and the items they want to purchase. The retailer will often ask for a copy of this. You’ll also need a wholesale pricelist. Remember to include an additional charge for postage and handling. Consider giving retailers your RRP (recommended retail price). Let retailers know if your prices are GST exclusive or inclusive.
Most retailers will ask you what your minimum order is. Provide this as a number of pieces or a total $ value (usually around $300-$500 wholesale as a guide.)
Know your timeline for realistically being able to supply orders. You're better off giving yourself a bit more time than promising too short a time frame and panicking to meet it.
We recommend invoicing via proforma. You send the pro-forma invoice (soon after the show) to the retailer, which indicates that the retailer is required to pay you before you send the work to them. Many designer makers request a 50% deposit before making items if made to order to ensure costs are covered.
